From Tasmania to Algeria: the hijrah of sister Hanina

Where are you from and where do you live in Algeria?

Assalamualaikum. My name is Hanina. My mother is Australian and my father is Algerian. My father left Algeria when he was 16yrs old and came back at the age of 70yrs old. He even forgot his Arabic!!!. I was born in Tasmania and brought up in Melbourne, Australia. I came to Algeria when i was 18yrs old and I have been here for 12yrs.

How long have you been living in Algeria for?

A ‘taste’ of Hijrah

As salam alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

“Algeria mon amour”…………. Algeria a love that never dies.

Year after year, spending time there, knowing people, growing in the din, my love for Algeria has started to grow bigger and bigger and  now I can definitely say that I feel at home, my home, my dar al Islam.

This summer I left England with the hope in my heart that my hijrah could start but Allah had decreed that the time was not yet alhamdulillah.  Continue reading

Where are you from and how long have you been in Algeria?

I moved to Algeria in August 2013,  from that time i have needed to spend a few months in the UK for health reasons but, that is when I made hijrah alhamdulillah.

Please tell us how your life and your family life has changed since you moved to Algeria.

Living in Algeria has increased our appreciation for the most basic of things – like having a constant supply of running water we also waste less. In the UK I tended to look after paperwork type things but here these things are done by my husband, I think through necessity I have become more dependant on my husband.  Alhamdulillah we already lived relatively simply in the UK but here our lifestyle has become much simpler.  Continue reading
